National Geographic Channel heads to the farm with FAMILY BEEF, a down-home, fun-loving series about the rambunctious Buchanans, a multigenerational family of cattle farmers in rural Virginia premiered August 7th on National Geographic Channel.
Keeping a 2,000-acre farm on its feet in 21st-century America is no easy task, especially with corporate-owned farms “ruling the roost.” But the Buchanans, led by father Big Tom, son Bo and patriarch “Poppy,” are doing everything they can to preserve their family legacy and hang on to their way of life. And in the face of demanding work, tight profit margins and the knowledge that any mishap could bury them financially, their sense of humor and entrepreneurial spirit – in the form of a myriad of side businesses – helps to carry them through.
Family Beef has heart that will keep viewers engaged, inspired and falling in love with the Buchanan family and their farm in Rich Valley, Virginia. Family Beef is produced by Authentic Entertainment in association with TuffCubby Entertainment for National Geographic Television.
Typically dressed in his trademark bib overalls, “Big Tom” Buchannan, 58, is a walking set of contradictions: equal parts hardworking farmer, dealmaker, father, son, husband and hilarious cartoon character. He raised son Bo on hardcore tough-love, a parenting style that has often put him at odds with his high-school-sweetheart-turned-wife Sandy. Big Tom gained instant fame as a contestant on CBS’s SURVIVOR AFRICA & ALL STARS.
Bucky “Bo” Buchanan, 30, is the young buck and self-proclaimed brains of the outfit – a full-time job with the added stress of earning respect from his Dad and grandpa. Bo was the local high school football hero and went on to University of Cumberlands and became an All-American football star. Now married to Desiree, he is the father of two young children.
Raymond “Poppy” Buchanan, 80, is the patriarch of the family and a mountain of a man with a wealth of knowledge and wisdom. Poppy loves to eat and fortunately his wife, Janavee, is a master in the kitchen. Steeped in old-school values, Poppy never takes a day off – and expects the same of Tom and Bo.
